About

Art

ALAC’s main goal is to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for LGBT artists of all identities, skill levels, preferred mediums, and points in their artistic journeys. We are dedicated to fostering a community that values diversity and embraces a wide range of artistic practices and expressions. Our collective believes in the power of art to connect, empower, and amplify the voices of multiply-marginalized creators.

As artists, we make art because creation is innate to our entire beings. Engaging in the act of artistic expression is a fundamental part of our identity and purpose. ALAC exists first and foremost to provide inclusive spaces, resources, and community support to make artmaking accessible for all who seek it.

Our Mission

ALAC is dedicated to leveling the playing field for artists who have been historically underrepresented or excluded, especially for those who embody multiply-marginalized identities. In addition to providing a platform for our voices as LGBT artists to be heard, we are committed to providing tangible support. Through initiatives like our planned microgrant program, we seek to alleviate financial burdens and provide resources to marginalized artists. By covering living expenses, supplying necessary materials, and assisting with application fees, we aim to remove barriers and ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to pursue their art.

Liberation

Central to ALAC's mission is the pursuit of social justice and equity. At the core of our values, we recognize the systemic barriers and inequalities that persist within the art world. ALAC is committed to actively dismantling these obstacles. In solidarity with marginalized communities, we are devoted to building a global network that embraces diversity and inclusion. Our goal is to cultivate a nurturing space where artists of all backgrounds are not just accepted, but truly valued and empowered. Through our work, we seek to challenge existing norms and advocate for the liberation of all individuals.

We also value the impact art and artmaking has within our broader communities, as well as political spheres. ALAC aims to provide support for artists exploring progressive ideas through their work.

Community

We are a collective dedicated to authentic expression. We try not to take ourselves too seriously, as this group is all about fun and creating! Additionally, we try to make space for casual, community-oriented events, both online and off. We try to keep our events with as little cost to our members as possible, typically free, so there is no financial barrier to entry. Additionally, we do require masking at in-person events to protect our disabled community members and those we will be in contact with.
